The Parts Most Operators Do Not Publish

You are about to fly an airplane you did not maintain, insured by a company you have not met. Here is how both are handled, in writing, before you ask.

Maintenance program

Inspection Cadence

Annual inspection

Every 12 calendar months by an FAA-certificated A&P with Inspection Authorization. The aircraft does not fly one day past due.

100-hour inspection

Flown to a 100-hour cycle even where Part 91 does not require it. Rental airframes work harder than private ones and are inspected accordingly.

Oil and filter

Every 50 hours, with an oil analysis sample sent on each change. Trending metals is how you catch an engine before it catches you.

ELT, transponder, static, pitot

Tracked on the calendar required by 91.207, 91.411 and 91.413. Current dates are in the aircraft binder and on the fleet page.

AD compliance

Airworthiness Directives are reviewed at every inspection and logged. Compliance status travels with the airframe logbook.

Current inspection dates and times remaining for each tail are listed on the fleet page. Ask to see the logbooks at any time — the binder lives in the hangar and we will open it.

Squawks

Grounding Authority Sits With The Pilot

  1. 01

    Anyone can ground the airplane

Any renter may write a squawk. A squawk marked airworthiness-affecting grounds the tail immediately — no negotiation, no manager override.

  2. 02

Squawks are recorded, not passed along

Written in your account against the tail and the Hobbs reading. Nothing is handled verbally on the ramp.

  3. 03

    Return to service is signed

A grounded aircraft returns to the line only after the repair is signed off by the mechanic and the logbook entry is filed.

  4. 04

Your booking is not our priority

If your slot is on a grounded aircraft, it is cancelled and refunded or moved. Block hours are never consumed by a maintenance cancellation.

Insurance

Two Policies, Always

Operator coverage

Onyx Aviation LLC carries hull and liability coverage on every aircraft.

Renter requirement

Every renter carries their own non-owned aircraft policy naming liability and hull damage cover at or above the minimum published for that tail.

Why both

The operator policy protects the airplane. Your renter policy protects you from the deductible and from third-party claims. Neither substitutes for the other.

Proof on file

A current declarations page is uploaded to your account before your first booking is approved, and re-verified at renewal.

Operating rule

Part 91, Renter As PIC

Hobbs Aviation does not hold an air carrier or commercial operator certificate and does not offer flight training, charter, sightseeing, or air taxi. Every flight is conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 with you, the renter, acting as pilot in command and holding final authority for the operation of the aircraft under 91.3.

If you need a checkout, endorsement or rating, hire an independent instructor. Several work out of KPGD and we will happily give you names.
